Information

You want to supervise what your kids can get into on the Internet
but you can’t always be right there?

Here are some ideas/options to help monitor Internet usage:

Use our Filtering Service – Bess by N2H2

Bess was developed for schools and continues to be one of the most used filtering services available.

Bess resides on our server so that it cannot be disabled on your end. Occasionally someone will try to get around the filtering – this results in not being able to go anywhere on the Internet. It can only be disabled on our end unless you set up a parental override password that will temporarily disable the filtering. If you choose, you can be notified automatically each time the parental override is used.

It does a very good job of filtering unwanted material and is updated every day automatically. It also blocks newsgroups and chat rooms.

It’s easy to submit a site for review to be added or removed from the filter.

Cost
We are offering this service to our clients for only $2 per month.

Please contact us if you would like us to activate filtering on your account Info@SoftSolutions.com or  413-2000 (852-3149 in Utah County).

Purchase filtering software for your computer

There are several products available at stores that sell computer software. Some of the more popular ones are Net Nanny, Cybersitter, and Surfwatch. They generally cost $30-60 per year and are installed on your computer (each computer must have it’s own copy which can add up if you use more than one computer).

Since these are installed on your computer, there is the possibility of someone figuring out how to disable/uninstall them. You generally will have to be responsible to see that the filter is updated on a regular basis (new sites are added to the Internet every day and need to be added to the filter).

Don’t tell your kids the password

If others don’t know your password, then they can’t use your Internet connection unless you know about it. If you need to you can contact us and change your password.

Place the computer in a very public place

When the computer is in an area where others can see what’s happening (such as the kitchen or living room) it tends to help.
