Reinstalling Dial-Up Networking

Print this page and keep it with your Windows CD because you won't be able to access the Internet if you're having trouble with Dial-Up Networking


Note:  You may be required to insert your Windows 95/98 CD while making changes, it's a good idea to have this CD available before beginning this process.

  • Close all applications
  • Double-Click on My Computer
  • Double-Click on Control Panel
  • Double-Click on Add/Remove Programs
  • Click on Windows Setup tab
  • Double-Click on Communications
  • Uncheck Dial-Up Networking (You may be asked about removing other applications dependent on Dial-Up Networking, it's OK to remove them)
  • Click OK
  • Click on Apply
  • Double-Click on Communications again
  • Check Dial-Up Networking
  • Click OK
  • Click on Apply (This is where you may be prompted for your Windows 95/98 CD) - It will take a couple of minutes for your computer to copy files
  • Click OK

At this time you may be prompted to Restart your Computer.  It is not necessary at this point to do so.

Installing TCP/IP Driver

  • From the Control Panel Double-Click on Network
  • Check to see if there is a TCP/IP Listed
  • If there is a TCP/IP Close all Windows and Restart your Computer and ignore the rest of these steps
  • If there's not a TCP/IP
  • Click on the Add button
  • Click on Protocol
  • Click on Add
  • Click on Microsoft
  • Click on TCP/IP
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Restart your Computer when prompted
  • After Windows Restarts you may close any open windows
