Creating New Mail Folders

Keeping your mailbox organized can often be difficult with all the e-mail messages that manage to get delivered to you, from personal to business, and unfortunately even junk mail.  Fortunately, there are ways to help you organize your messages in your e-mail programs.  Below you will learn how to create new mail folders to help you file messages a little better.

The instructions below are for three of the more popular e-mail programs: Outlook Express, Eudora Light, and Netscape Messenger.  Some of the instructions below will be similar if you use a different e-mail program.

The e-mail programs listed below have folders for incoming, outgoing, sent, draft, and deleted mail already.  These usually work fine, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a folder for personal or work related e-mail?   Use the following steps to add new folders:

Outlook Express

  • Open outlook express and click on the Inbox folder.
  • Click File on your menu bar.
  • Click on New and select Folder…
  • Type the name of the folder you would like to create (i.e. Work, Personal, etc.) and click OK.
  • Repeat the process to add more Folders.

Netscape Messenger

  • Click on Communicator on your menu bar.
  • Click on Message Center from the scroll down menu.
  • In the Message Center window click on Local Mail.
  • Click the New Folder button on the tool bar.
  • Type the name of the new folder and press OK.
  • Repeat the process for more folders.
  • Close the Message Center window.

Eudora Light

  • Right-click on MAIL on the Mailboxes Window.
  • Click on New…
  • Type the name of the new mailbox and click OK.

Now that you’ve created new folders, you can move messages by simply dragging them from one folder into another.
