Sorting E-mail messages

Have you ever looked for a specific e-mail message someone has sent you, but because of all the messages in your folder you were unable to find it?  Well, here are a few helpful hints to help you sort through your e-mail and find messages much faster than scrolling down your whole list of messages.

Sorting allows you to arrange your messages in a particular order.  This can be very helpful if you are interested in a particular subject, looking for messages from a specific sender, looking for messages that came at a specific date, want to look at the most current messages in descending order, etc.

Many e-mail programs are out in the market; some of the most popular ones are Outlook Express, Eudora Light, and Netscape Mail.  Regardless of which one you use, they all allow you to sort.

To sort messages, you will need to go into a particular folder (i.e. Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc.).  Once inside the folder, messages are listed under columns displaying From or Sender, Subject, Date, Status, Size, Priority, etc.  By clicking on the column heading, the messages will be reordered according to that specific column.   For example, when you click the From column, messages are sorted alphabetically by the sender’s name, or when you click the Date column, the most current messages will be displayed at the top.

Using these simple tips will help you find items a whole lot easier without the frustration of going through your whole list of messages.
